
Felicita Bautista holds her two-year-old son, Luis, in their Chattanooga, Tennessee home. Felicita and her husband, who are both illegal immigrants from Guatemala, met while working at Chattanooga's Pilgrim's Pride chicken processing plant. Her husband was one of the hundred arrested during an immigration raid at the plant and remains in jail on immigration charges.

George Love sports his Riverbend hat, complete with every pin since the festival began issuing pins in 1982, while eating at the music festival's food court. The weeklong festival is the biggest event of the year in Chattanooga. Each year visitors are issued a different pin that allows entrance to the festival site and these pins have become a badge of pride for long-time festivalgoers.

Qiren Xia sits with her dog, Aini, at the convenience store she runs in Shanghai, China. Xia, who is 56, said their four-year-old Chihuahua, whose name means love you, provides an important sense of companionship for her and her husband. “This is such a big city,” she said. “It has more people but less human contact… Having a dog can make you feel less lonely.

Two-year-old Ben Hudson, who has autism, plays with the light box at the Siskin Children's Institute in Chattanooga, Tennessee. The center provides pre-school education for both typically developing children and children with developmental difficulties.
