After writing about the Shanghai’s pampered dogs for CNNGo, I am hoping to turn my attention toward the city’s feline site. Here are some photos from my first two preliminary shoots of two ladies who have dedicated themselves to caring for the city’s homeless cats.

Between towering apartment buildings, the sun rises through the Shanghai smog.
I moved to Shanghai during the time of the Expo and, I don’t know if this is a coincidence or not, but it seems to me that as soon as the Expo finished air quality got much worse, sometimes visibility is reduced to 10 percent of its normal level. I see many more people wearing masks. I wonder if they really do much good.

I can’t believe I have been in Shanghai for two weeks already. It has been a whirlwind but I am finally settling in to my new apartment. I start class at Fudan University tomorrow studying Chinese and Chinese media/journalism. I am eager to get out and start seeing more of the city. Expect more posts soon.

I stopped over in Dubai for two days en route to China. I don’t know if I have ever been to such a new city, so much construction, so much expansion, so much excitement. The area where I stayed had been desert just five years ago.

I snapped this picture as I was walking back to the underground station after photographing the Carnaval del Pueblo. As I young photographer, I used to tilt my photos all the time. Working for newspapers, I wasn’t allowed to tilt one picture. As soon as I leave, I’m back tilting again. Maybe it’s just rebellion and I’ll get over it, but then again it just seems so natural.
